Jessie Harteis

Jessie has more than 15 years of experience designing and implementing complex education policy at the federal, state, local, and classroom levels. During her six years at the Office of the State Superintendent of Education, Jessie spearheaded the strategic design and reporting for DC's $600 million K-12 federal COVID funding portfolio and managed engagement for the design and implementation of high-stakes special projects, including statewide accountability design and two agency strategic plans. At the US Department of Education, Jessie advised and oversaw senior state and district officials as lead program officer for multiple federal programs including: Race to the Top, School Improvement Grants, State Fiscal Stabilization Fund, Title I, Title II-A, and Title III, managing a portfolio exceeding $2 billion. Jessie holds an M.A. in Teaching from American University and a B.A. of Science from Northwestern University. She credits her journalism background with making her oddly curious about researching, uncovering patterns and risks, laying out options and considerations, and empowering herself and others to take next steps. Her superpower is being a vision setter and detail executer.
