Alex Pennington

Data and Research Consultant

Alex has nearly a decade of experience employing advanced statistical methodologies and research techniques across a variety of governmental and educational contexts using Stata, R and Python. In his most recent role as Director of Research and Strategic Analysis at the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery (GOSR) in New York City, he has advanced the use of data within the agency, prioritizing the application of statistical analysis to the agency’s vast geospatial data and spearheading the development of a research agenda for the agency. Specifically, he has demonstrated statistical skill by adding interesting generalized linear models, geospatial data, and time-series analysis to routinely required reports to shine a light on previously unnoticed patterns within government data. At OSSE, Alex was a lead member of a team that built and improved upon the new statewide accountability system, culminating in the DC School Report Card, along with shared analysis and writing of three extensive papers on the system for public understanding of the new accountability system. During his time at OSSE, Alex also worked closely with the Office of the Chief of Staff and Office of Assessments to analyze and validate enrollment data and execute analysis of the annual PARCC and MSAA results.
